This explains the functions for operating the camera from a smartphone.

Functions described in this document with the (icon_need-bluetooth) symbol require a smartphone that supports Bluetooth Low Energy.

When you start up “LUMIX Sync”, the home screen is displayed.

This allows connection settings, camera power operations, and displays Help.

(D) icon_app-remo-con: [Shutter Remote Control] (character_reference[Shutter Remote Control])

[Remote shooting]

You can use the smartphone to record from a remote location while viewing the live view images from the camera.


Getting started:

bullet02Connect the camera to a smartphone. (character_referenceConnecting to a Smartphone (Bluetooth Connection), Connecting to a Smartphone ([Wi-Fi connection]))

bullet02On the smartphone, start up “LUMIX Sync”.


  1. Select [icon_wi-fi-remote-view] ([Remote shooting]) in the home screen.

bullet02(iOS devices) When a message to confirm the change of destination is displayed, select [Join].

  1. Start recording.

bullet02The recorded image is saved on the camera.

bullet02When used in combination with [Auto Transfer], it is possible to automatically transfer the remotely recorded images to a smartphone. (character_reference[Auto Transfer])

Set either the camera or the smartphone as the priority control device to be used during remote recording.

Operation is possible on both the camera and the smartphone.

bullet02The camera’s dial settings, etc. cannot be changed with the smartphone.

Operation is possible only on the smartphone.

bullet02The camera’s dial settings, etc. can be changed with the smartphone.

bullet02To end remote recording, press any of the buttons on the camera to turn on the screen, and select [End].



bullet02The default setting is [Camera].

[Shutter Remote Control]

You can use the smartphone as a remote control for the shutter.


Getting started:

bullet02On the smartphone, start up “LUMIX Sync”.


  1. Select [icon_app-remo-con] ([Shutter Remote Control]) in the home screen.

  1. Start recording.

The shutter can be kept open from the start to end of recording, which is useful for recording of starry skies or night scenery.


Getting started:

bullet02Set the camera to [M] mode. (character_referenceManual Exposure Mode)

bullet02Set the camera shutter speed to [B] (Bulb). (character_reference[B] (Bulb))


  1. Touch [icon_image-app-shutter-g] to start recording (keep touching, without removing your finger).

  1. Remove your finger from [icon_image-app-shutter-g] to end recording.

bullet02Slide [icon_image-app-shutter-g] in the direction of [LOCK] to record with the shutter button locked in a fully-pressed state.

(Slide [icon_image-app-shutter-y] back to its original position or press the camera shutter button to end recording)

bullet02During [B] (Bulb) recording, if the Bluetooth connection is broken, then carry out Bluetooth connection again, then end recording from the smartphone.


character_diamondShortening the Return Time from [Sleep Mode]

You can shorten the time it takes for the camera to return from [Sleep Mode] when the [Shutter Remote Control] is used.


Getting started:

bullet02To use the [Shutter Remote Control] to cancel [Sleep Mode] on the camera, set [Bluetooth] in the [Setup] ([IN/OUT]) menu as follows, then connect via Bluetooth:

– [Remote Wakeup]: [ON] (character_reference[Remote Wakeup])

– [Auto Transfer]: [OFF] (character_reference[Auto Transfer])

bullet02The camera cannot be turned on by using [Shutter Remote Control].


[Import images]

Transfer an image stored on the card to the smartphone connected via Wi-Fi.


Getting started:

bullet02Connect the camera to a smartphone. (character_referenceConnecting to a Smartphone (Bluetooth Connection), Connecting to a Smartphone ([Wi-Fi connection]))

bullet02On the smartphone, start up “LUMIX Sync”.


  1. Select [icon_wi-fi-playback] ([Import images]) in the home screen.

bullet02(iOS devices) When a message to confirm the change of destination is displayed, select [Join].

  1. Select the image to transfer.

bullet02You can switch the card displayed by touching (H).

  1. Transfer the image.

bullet02If the image is a video, you can play it back by touching [icon_play-picture-smartphone_s] at the center of the screen.

bullet02When a video is played back, this has a small data size and is transmitted using “LUMIX Sync”, therefore its image quality will differ from that of the actual video recording.

Depending on the smartphone and on the usage conditions, the image quality may deteriorate or the sound may skip during video or picture playback.

bullet02It is not possible to transfer images with file sizes exceeding 4 GB.

bullet02Images recorded using the following functions cannot be transferred:

– [MOV] videos, [Apple ProRes] videos


[Auto Transfer]

You can automatically transfer recorded pictures to a smartphone as they are taken.


Getting started:

  1. Enable [Auto Transfer] on the camera.

bullet02If a confirmation screen is displayed on the camera asking you to terminate the Wi-Fi connection, select [Yes] to terminate it.

  1. On the smartphone, select [Yes] (for Android devices) or [Join] (for iOS devices).

bullet02The camera automatically makes a Wi-Fi connection.

  1. Check the send settings on the camera and then press button_menu-set or button_joy-stick-push_s.

bullet02To change the send setting, press [DISP.]. (character_referenceImage Send Settings)

bullet02Automatic image transfer is possible when [icon_wi-fi-sending1] is displayed on the camera recording screen.

  1. Record with the camera.

bullet02[icon_wi-fi-sending2] is displayed in the recording screen of the camera while a file is being sent.

bullet02If the [Bluetooth] and [Auto Transfer] settings of the camera are [ON], the camera automatically connects to the smartphone via Wi-Fi and Bluetooth when you turn on the camera.

Start up the “LUMIX Sync” on the smartphone to connect to the camera.

bullet02Images are not transferred while the recording screen of the camera is displayed on the smartphone in [Remote shooting].

bullet02When [Auto Transfer] is set to [ON], [Wi-Fi Function] cannot be used.

bullet02If the camera is turned off during image transfer, and the file sending is interrupted, then turn on the camera to restart the sending.

– If the storage status of unsent files changes, then sending of files may no longer be possible.

– If there are many unsent files, then sending of all files may not be possible.

bullet02Images recorded with the following function cannot be transferred automatically:

– Video recording


[Location Logging]

The smartphone sends its location information to the camera via Bluetooth, and the camera performs recording while writing the acquired location information.


Getting started:

bullet02Enable the GPS function on the smartphone.

bullet02Connect the camera to a smartphone by Bluetooth. (character_referenceConnecting to a Smartphone (Bluetooth Connection))


  1. Enable [Location Logging] on the camera.

bullet02The camera will enter a mode where location information can be recorded and [icon_gps] is displayed in the recording screen of the camera.

  1. Record images with the camera.

bullet02Location information will be written to the recorded images.

bullet02When [icon_gps] on the recording screen appears translucent, location information cannot be acquired, therefore data cannot be written.

Smartphone GPS positioning may not be possible if the smartphone is within a building, a bag, or similar. Move the smartphone to a position affording a wide view of the sky to improve positioning performance.

In addition, refer to the operating instructions of your smartphone.

bullet02Images with location information are indicated with [icon_gps].

bullet02Be sure to pay special attention to the privacy, the likeness rights, etc. of the subject when you use this function. Use at your own risk.

bullet02The smartphone drains its battery faster while acquiring location information.


[Remote Wakeup]

Even when the camera is turned off, the smartphone can be used to start the camera and record images, or check the recorded images.


Getting started:

  1. Connect to a smartphone using Bluetooth. (character_referenceConnecting to a Smartphone (Bluetooth Connection))

  1. Enable [Remote Wakeup] on the camera.

  1. Set the camera on/off switch to [OFF].

  1. On the smartphone, start up “LUMIX Sync”.

Select [Remote shooting] in the “LUMIX Sync” home screen.

bullet02(iOS devices) When a message to confirm the change of destination is displayed, select [Join].

bullet02The camera turns on, and automatically connects using Wi-Fi.

  1. Select [icon_lumix-sync-menu] in the “LUMIX Sync” home screen.

  1. Select [Turn off the camera].

  1. Select [Power OFF].

bullet02When [Auto Transfer] is set to [ON], images recorded while remote operation is running are automatically transferred to a smartphone.

If [Power OFF] is selected while there are still unsent images, sending is resumed when the camera is next turned on.

bullet02When [Remote Wakeup] has been set, the Bluetooth function continues to work even if the camera on/off switch is set to [OFF], so the battery will drain.


[Auto Clock Set]

Synchronize the clock and the time zone setting of the camera with those of a smartphone.


Getting started:

Enable [Auto Clock Set] on the camera.

[Camera settings copy]

This saves the camera’s settings information to the smartphone.

Saved settings information can be loaded to the camera, letting you set the same settings on multiple cameras.


Getting started:

  1. Select [icon_image-app-tool] ([Others]) character_arrow [icon_image-app-camera-set-copy] ([Camera settings copy]) in the “LUMIX Sync” home screen.

  1. Save or load settings information.

bullet02Read the [Help] in the “LUMIX Sync” menu for further details on how to operate the “LUMIX Sync”.

bullet02Only settings information from the same model can be loaded.

bullet02When transferring settings information, a Wi-Fi connection is automatically created.
